Eurovision:...Where To Beguin?

Being stuck at home for several weeks can be quite a difficult task for some people. After binge-watching your favorite shows on Netflix and watching the latest content from your favorite YouTubers, it can be rather hard to find something that might get a laugh out of you, since there´s nothing else to watch. Well, fear not, because I´m about to share with you the absolute joy that is Eurovision Song Contest.

Flashy stage? Check. Exaggerated camera angles? Check. A lady bouncing off a huge stick while another one sings electro opera while performing in an 8-meter plastic dress? Check. If you´re looking for something to unironically waste your time, and that will bring you nothing short of a blast, check out the Eurovision performances available on YouTube.

At its core, Eurovision is a very simple show. First broadcasted in 1956, the contest consists of primarily European countries (plus Australia) submitting an original song to be performed on live T.V. and radio. Then, said nation casts votes for the other countries' songs to determine the winner. As of 2019, at least 50 countries are eligible to compete.

However, what makes this contest so entertaining and different from similar shows, is how insanely over-the-top everything is, from the artists' voices to the costumes and the choreography. When checking in with the show, you can easily expect alien-like suits for the band performing, some jiggly dance moves and a couple of questionably mesmerizing (if not hilariously cheesy) bops.

It´s safe to say that this competition includes some beautiful performances, as well as some shocking entries that would make pretty good memes. Thus, if you´re willing to step out of your comfort zone and enjoy some puzzling randomness, I believe that you´ll find yourself enjoying the Eurovision Song Contest. So, forget the fear and give it a watch.
