How to Train Your Puppy

It’s 2020. We are in Quarantine, and I am sure a really fun activity for you to do to focus your mind on something different rather than the virus is to train your puppy.

When you get a new puppy, it is necessary to teach them to do their business in a specific place in order to avoid disasters. Don’t know how to do it? Well, today I have some tips to make it easier.

Housetraining a dog can be complicated, but you need to be disciplined, consistent, patient, and positive. It is necessary to build a loving and strong bond with your pet since he is new to this world, and he just started to understand our language.

Usually, it takes from four to six months for a puppy to be fully disciplined and trained, but some can even take a year. Something to realize before starting the process is the size of your dog, and the previous conditions he/she was living before you adopted or bought him/her.

  • Experts recommend to start training your puppy between 12 weeks and 16 weeks because, at this age, they usually start to understand more your commands and become more obedient.

  • When you start with the process begin by training the dog in a small space since they can get overwhelmed if you are giving him orders in a spacious place.

  • Keep your pet in a regular schedule so they can get used to a routine, and take the food out of his site between meals.

  • Take your puppy to the same spot several times a day to do his business. The scent will help him to go to the same place and be disciplined with it.

  • When your puppy does his business where he should, give him a treat to help him realize he did something good. This will make him repeat this, and eventually go and do it by himself.
